It was time to fly to Chicago, and spend a week at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) orientation for the Young Adult in Global Mission Program (YAGM). I am grateful to be one of 62 participates in the program serving in nine different countries across the globe over the next year.
Orientation was a time filled with laughter and joy, but also a time of learning, reflection, tears, and prayer as we learned how to live by the accompaniment model, while grappling with some of the most prominent social issues that we face in todays world, while looking at how they are in our countries of service. We also learned more about ELCA theology and the basics of what the lutherans believe the bible tells us, and how to live our lives as Christians.
Orientation concluded with a closing worship that was full of songs, scripture, and blessing as we prepared to leave for our year of service.
